For me, Halloween means the beginning of the Holiday season.  I love the smell of Fall and the taste of all the Halloween goodies.  It is so easy and fun to create yummy treats for the trick-or-treaters, or a Halloween party you may be having.  Here are some creative munchies for your guests.  All of the following “treats” are easy to create and add that extra touch to any Halloween event.  Just remember to get creative and have fun!

Mummy Yummies

Ingredients:
1 package of hot dogs
1 can of refrigerator crescent rolls
Mustard

Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 375.   Open the can of crescent rolls and lay them out flat on a cookie sheet.  Use a butter knife to cut them into 1/8” strips.  Next, wrap your hotdogs with the strips of crescent rolls be sure to cover the hot dog completely with one layer of strips, leaving a ½ inch opening close to the top of the hot dog for the face.  Lay the covered hot dogs onto the cookie sheet and bake them for 12-14 minutes.  Once the “mummies” are cooled, use the mustard to draw eyes on the exposed part of the hot dog.  Serve warm and enjoy.

Ingredients:
Lil Dutch Maid Chocolate Chip Cookies
Hershey’s kisses
Colored tube icing in various colors (thin)
Chocolate Chips
Paraffin Wax (found in the canning aisle of the grocery store)
Double boiler or chocolate melting pot

Instructions:
Using a double boiler or a chocolate melting pot, melt 1 ½ cups of chocolate chips with ¼ inch of the block of Paraffin wax, shaved into the chocolate chips, this is used to bind the chocolate and allow it to cool without being sticky.  Once the chocolate is melted, dip one side of the cookie flat side down into the chocolate, just enough to coat the flat side of the cookie.  Let the chocolate covered cookies cool on parchment paper.  Using the tube icing as glue, squirt a quarter size of icing onto the Hershey kiss and place it on top of the chocolate covered side of the cookie.  Draw a line and bow around the bottom of the Hershey kiss as a decoration.

Spider Cookies

Ingredients:
Lil Dutch Maid Chocolate sandwich cookies with
Orange tube icing
Licorice strings
Red hots
Tube icing (thin)

Instructions:
Cut six 1” strips of red string licorice and set them aside.  Separate the sandwich cookies, next squirt orange icing onto one side of the cookie, then place 4 of the ½ “ licorice strips onto each side of the cookie, these are the 8 legs. Place the other half of the cookie back on top of the legs.  Using the tube icing, glue the red hots on top of the cookie for the eyes.

Ingredients:
Maraschino cherries with stems
Chocolate chips
Paraffin wax
Almond slices
Red tube icing (thin)
Parchment paper

Instructions:
Melt a 1 ½ cups of chocolate chips in a melting pot or a double boiler.  Add a ¼ stick of paraffin wax, by shaving it into the melted chocolate, this is used to bind the chocolate and allow it to cool without being sticky.  Once the wax has melted completely into the chocolate, dip the cherries one at a time into the chocolate then place them on the parchment paper.  While the chocolate is still hot, add a chocolate chip to the front of the chocolate covered cherry for the nose and place two almond slivers into the top of the cherry for the ears.  Once the chocolate has cooled, draw two eyes on the mice with the red tube icing.

Candy Corn Crackers

Ingredients:
Saltine Crackers (Sun Valley Brand works best)
3 colors of cheese
Yellow American cheese
Baby Swiss cheese
Sharp Cheddar Cheese

Instructions:
The first thing you want to do is cut the saltine crackers into triangles.  Next cut your cheese into 3 different sizes for the candy corn colors.  Place the cheese onto the cracker in the order of the candy corn, yellow on the bottom, orange in the middle, and white on top.  This will take some time but it is a really cute treat.
